Legend has it, J.W. Kelly, the turpentine magnate who built this grand home, would gather with his friends and fellow Jacksonville pioneers in the ground floor parlor of 1521 Riverside Avenue, making it the social hub of the neighborhood. They appropriately dubbed themselves “The Gum Bunch”, after the industry that yielded their successes and solidified their place in the city’s rich history.

Today, we pay tribute to their legacy with The Gum Bunch Pub. Take a seat at the bar, hand crafted from the parlor’s original doors and topped with antique rosewood. Even the door knobs remain intact providing a place for ladies to store their purses. Enjoy quiet conversation inside or river breezes on the back deck, shaded by an ancient live oak.
